It needs way to mount to truck.
The pegs for sockets need to be Progressively wider so that from small sockets to larger have room to fit.
A Stiffer door with a metal lock…
And line X coating would make perfect.
Other than that absolutely great Box.
I use it daily I keep in weather it works.
Weirdly enough am a electrician, not a mechanic, but travel with it, I do it all.
Keeps a lot of stuff I need handy in reach, and can find what tools need fast there on my tailgate.
I recommend it, I am proud owner who may buy another for house, been so well worth cost.
If it was junk I wouldn’t be here…I’ve used mine for five years before wrote this.

Have had this box mounted on a utility body for almost a year and it’s great. I love that before I leave a job site I can glance and make sure all tools are in the right place. This is a great tool box! I made my purchase from strictly tool boxes after calling them on some questions I had about the tool box. When I called they were very helpful in answering the questions I had about the tool box. The toolbox has plenty of storage, I really like all the socket pegs. I do wish it had storage pockets for some smaller tools, rather than letting them float around in the bottom. Although overall it is a great tool box! I would recommend this to a friend for sure. One of the mechanics up at the International dealer has one of these tool boxes, I saw it the other day and purchased one when I arrived home. This toolbox is the BOMB! I have very limited space in my garage right now. We will fix that issue come Spring time. Now, everything, the commonly used stuff is easily accessible. The shipping was extremely fast, three days to Detroit area. The box arrived undamaged, even though it looked like it had been dropped and banged around a few times, it did manage to come through unscathed. The construction is solid, this is not some Sears or Home Depot tool box. The paint job is heavy duty too, very impressed. I can see why this makes for a good mobile tool chest solution, this chest is solid. If you are looking at one of these boxes, just do it! As you will wonder how you got along without one once you receive it.

I am a farmer and mechanic. I have had a larger snap on road tool box but hated how much room it took up and needed to get removed every time I hooked up to a gooseneck trailer. I’m able to be more organized and take up less room. The ability to see if I’m missing sockets and wrenches at a glance is a great bonus being I tend to have to many projects going at once. It did fill up quickly but I that means it won’t get used as a trash bin or spare parts bin.

Overall very satisfied with the toolbox. I ordered the 36″ and 26″ and they arrived very quickly. I bought the 36″ as an upgrade from my 30″ I had been using for 6 years in my service pickup The biggest reason for the upgrade was to have space for metric wrenches and sockets required for our newer farm equipment. The toolbox fits all the tools and I had along with room to spare. I ended up having to buy more sockets and wrenches to keep it from looking empty. The tool box itself isn’t quit as heavily built as my old 30″ but does seem pretty durable. The only downside to this tool box is that it doesn’t have the slide over lock like my old box but instead has a gas cylinder. The 26″ was purchased to put up against the headache rack on a pickup with a bale bed to do quick repairs without needing to get out the service pickup.

I’ve been admiring these tool boxes ever since they first released the 26″ combo. I’ve held off for many years on buying this tool box and I’m glad I finally bought it. I purchased the 36″ crossover and found it is a lot more spacious than it appears in the photos. All the built on organization is awesome. I was setting up a service trailer and needed a tool box that could handle the abuse of bouncing around and still keep my tools in place. This tool box gave me plenty of room and held my tools in place. I like how all my wrenches face forward, the extra space to the left, and the new latch. One thing I don’t like is that I can only put chrome sockets in the socket tray. If I try to load it with impact sockets, they don’t fit. Overall I am pleased with my new toolbox and would recommend it to anyone needing a tool box for a service or farm truck.

I am a first time buyer of the Montezuma LA400 toolbox, but I will definitely be a repeat customer. I had always loved my Snap-On toolbox in the shop but it was not easy to “gather” tools and head to a job site. I looked at road boxes from Mac, Snap-On… but couldn’t justify the price for what you got. I knew about the Montezuma boxes but never looked at one. As I researched they had everything I was looking for, so I bought the 30″ LA400 for SAE and metric. I couldn’t be happier. Guys at work have used tools from my box over theirs because its easier to access and everything is right in front of you. I can pull out tools and put them back in half the time as a normal tool box. So much organization, and SPACE! Someone put a lot of thought into designing, but yet so simple. I have crossed paths with many people who inquire about the toolbox, all have been impressed and complimented it. I have owned the tool box for 4 months, the new shiny paint has a few scuffs, so I am not giving it a great review because I have an impulsive “this is great, its new” feeling. The toolbox rides around on a pick up at multiple sand and gravel pits that our company operates and seems to stand up to sand snow rain and rough roads no problem. We have multiple trucks, so when those tool boxes are due to replace, we will most likely put Montezuma’s on them. Also want to give a shout out to the guys at Strictly tool boxes. My LA400 is a perfect fit for my needs. I never purchase a product without doing extensive research and there is nothing out there that comes close to this product. I found myself using multiple organizers and multiple toolboxes to attain what I have in my 1 LA400. I like this tool box. I farm and never seem to have enough tools with me. I’ve got a covered bed on my pickup that is aluminum diamond plate just like my new Montezuma box. Before I had to walk from side to side of the truck to get at different tools. Now I can get to everything in one location and push the tool box out of the way if I need more bed space. It is very well made and was priced competitive. My only problem was that when my old toolboxes were empty the new one still wasn’t full. Nice problem

What a toolbox! I had it out in the oil patch could not believe how sturdy it was. It fell off my tractor from about 4 feet off the ground and I drove over it with one tire. That put a few dents in the tool box. It took me like 15 min to fix it, and now its just like new. This portable toolbox was the only way to go!

This toolbox is well constructed, and since it is aluminum is relatively lightweight. I am glad I purchased the aluminum tool box, because the steel toolbox would have been much heavier. The layout of the toolbox imposes organization on your tools! The one thing is, if you have any ratcheting or gearwrench style wrenches, they don’t fit well on the wrench tabs. So I put them in a wrench roll, and the fit nicely in the bottom. Also, it would be nice if the socket tabs were adjustable, because some sockets get pretty tight for the small sizes.

I have owned a montezuma tool box for about 15 years. Great toolbox that I have mounted on a flatbed that stays on the farm. I needed a better box for my work truck so I decided to go with the ME300B. So far I like the box, not sure I like the new latch system and the gas strut to hold the lid up but I’m sure it will be fine. My older tool box seems to be set up better with the spacing between pegs for sockets and wrenches. The new one is a little tight when you get up to the larger end. I do like the deep compartments for odd tools in the center and the large storage for hammers and pry bars.

I needed a tool box to store a full set of standard tools plus screwdrivers, hammer, punches, grease gun, multimeter, etc. As a territory rep for an ag equipment company, I spend a lot of time on the road, and often find myself in remote locations. We race sprint cars and this tool box is perfect to have the visual inventory as it is so fast paced at the track. It is a little noisy in the bed of our side x side but thats no big deal compared to how much easier it has made finding tools. I recommend Montezuma boxes to everyone I know even for in-shop use. I moved out of a 1-ton service truck to a pick up. Had to down size my tool box. I had a larger CPL tool box I bought back in ’96. It was still in great shape just too big. I was disappointed that the new box was built so light duty, compared to my old box. It does have some nice features the old box didn’t have. Over all I am happy with the toolbox

I needed a decent toolbox to get my tools organized. I purchased a large Montezuma chest from a local store but they were sold out of the upper chest and could not get any more. I went online and found this one and thought it would fit my needs/desires. The toolbox is well made and arrived quickly. I should have bought the next size up but this one will do just fine. I bought this to replace an aging Craftsman 26″ 6 drawer chest that I use in my (dirt bike) trailer. I finally got the shower built in to my trailer, and the Craftsman wasn’t going to fit where I “wanted” it to. This Montezuma portable tool box fits perfectly in the space I had available… Better than anything else I could find (this is for sure an “odd” size as far as toolboxes go). It has to be difficult to design an “organizer” toolbox that can fit everyone’s needs. When I say “organizer”, I mean that it has specifically designed locations for certain types of tools. If you don’t have (or want) those specific tools, then these extra spots are wasted. In my particular use case, I don’t really have the need to carry any 1/2″ drive sockets, so the prongs that would normally hold those sockets are just taking up space (I’m considering cutting them off, but there isn’t really anything else I could put there, so that doesn’t gain me much). Maybe I’ll come up with a modification that will allow me to use that space, but right now it isn’t worth much. The second (also nitpicking) gripe I have, is that the wrench hangers go from large to small across the back of the box, such that you have to hang your large metric wrenches next to your large standard wrenches on the left, and then hang your smaller metrics and standards next to each other on the right. It would have been nice if they could have gone large to small on the left, then large to small again on the right, (like they did with their socket prongs) so you could hang your all your metrics together on the left and all your standards together on the right, rather than having them all intermingled (making it harder to find the right wrench). Third nitpick… This would be the perfect tool box (for me) if it were a few inches taller and had a “junk drawer” (or two) built in to the base. Would be nice to have a little extra space to throw some random extra parts. But those are all nitpicks. Overall this is a heavy duty toolbox that has nice thick steel (has to be double the thickness of the old Craftsman), a thick powder coat, and a solid latch. It looks and feels like it will last me the rest of my life. Overall, really nice tool box, easy access to sockets, wrenches, and screwdrivers (other stuff is a little buried). I would like to give 4 1/2 stars, but it is more worthy of a 5 star than a 4 star. Purchase was easy and shipping was fast. Nice toolbox!!!

Have bought two of these and am very satisfied with the quality and layout. Both were the 36 inch models. Plan to replace tool body trucks with a 41 inch model and a couple of underbody boxes for oversized tools. Can tell in a glance if anything is missing. Very important if you have other people in your tools. Wish there was a white color offered to keep box cool in the summer. I had to repaint mine.

Overall I love the portable tool box. It’s a great design where I can keep all the tools I need in one place without taking up a ton of room on my truck. I am using it on my tow truck so I can’t afford to have a giant box taking up to much room because I still have to have room for my dolly wheels straps and bars so this box is perfect for my truck. As much as I want to give this box a perfect 5 star there is one flaw would does bother me which is that the pegs for the sockets are not spaced that well. Certain sockets as they get bigger in size won’t fit next to another socket so I have to start skipping pegs so that my sockets will fit so in the end I end up loosing valuable pegs. But like I said that is the only flaw and overall it’s a wonderful box.

I have wanted one for a long time and when someone stole my hand held toolbox off of my flat bed truck i decided to go ahead and spend the extra money and get that they can not still anymore and wished i have got it years ago highly recommend it to anyone who is thanking of getting one.

I’ve had my ME300 for a few years now, but I’m still just as happy with it as the day it came off of the UPS truck. I’ve only got one complaint, I wish I’d have bought 2 of them a long time ago! I now have 2 of the most awesome toolboxes on the planet! Purchasing the mtz-la400 allowed me to turn my “on road” service repair pick up truck into a more versatile vehicle again. I was able to take my many tools out of the contractor cap [which was mounted] on the back of my truck and put them into the MTZ-la400. Then I removed the contractor cap & as a result my vehicle is not limited to being simply a tool truck. I’m impressed!

This is a great, roomy and secure toolbox, which holds a great quantity of tools, for our lease maintenance vehicle taking up minimal space on the truck bed. This box was purchased to replace a previous smaller version of the Montezuma portable tool box in order to give more storage space for the tools needed for the truck.

I just got this toolbox a few days ago, and perfect size for everything I need to put in it and seems to be very heavy duty. I have had it sitting in the back of my truck bouncing up and down over rough terrain, and it hasn’t moved or had any problems. I work in potato fields all of the time so dust is an issue and so far it has more than met my expectations in addition to the ease of finding my tools and making sure i don’t leave them laying on a sprinkler pivot or sitting on the back of my truck.

Bought my first one 1 1/2 years ago. The second 6 months ago. And plan a third purchase shortly. Yes there may some issues with the placement of the socket pins but honestly that is the only thing I don’t LOVE about these tool boxes. I’ve hauler tools in portable road boxes for 35 years and these toolboxes are the best I’ve ever used.

Having seen this toolbox in a catalog a few years ago, I squirreled the $$ away to make the purchase. Limited shop space (and too many tools) is my primary challenge, digging for the the right size socket or wrench drives me nuts!. The LA400 is phenomenal for organizing and quick access. The only less than positive comment I have is I thought the tool box was made in Kansas but the box indicated China. I am sure that the careful layout of the storage pegs was accurately copied by the Chinese. Strictlytoolboxe’s price and service were A+++

I have worn out 3 chevy 3/4 ton trucks during the life of this tool box! You simply cannot hurt this thing and it does a great job of hauling around any tools I need here on the farm for heavy equipment!

I was setting up a service trailer and needed a tool box that could handle the abuse of bouncing around and still keep my tools in place. This tool box gave me plenty of room and held my tools in place. I like how all my wrenches face forward, the extra space to the left, and the new latch. One thing I don’t like is that I can only put chrome sockets in the socket tray. If I try to load it with impact sockets, they don’t fit. Overall I am pleased with my new toolbox and would recommend it to anyone needing a tool box for a service or farm truck.

I was tired of needing the tool set that was in the bottom of my truck box. This tool box is heavy duty and allowed me to put my hand tools in easy reach. I have a full set of metric and sae wrenches and most metric and sae sockets in this toolbox. Everything is easy to reach and see if anything is missing.

I purchased the small Montezuma portable toolbox so I could mount it horizontally to the pickup cab and still be able to easily reach all the tools. The tool box efficiently uses all of the space and has a good seal for protection from rain and dust. I have used the toolbox for one month and have not had any tools bounce out of place, even when driving some pretty rough terrain. I mainly purchased from Strictly Toolboxes for the price and delivery to my front door. I placed the order on Wednesday evening and by Monday the toolbox was delivered, mounted and in use. I would recommend this toolbox and Strictly Toolboxes to anyone considering the purchase of a toolbox.

I originally had the Cross-over toolbox and it was great, but had to hook up a gooseneck flatbed that had a sharp angle on the hitch. Almost crunched the tool box. I took it off and ordered these two. One for SAE and one for Metric. Put both on the same side for ease of access (wife thinks it looks “stupid and it should be more balanced” but it is my truck and I set things up to be easy on me. I like my tools to be organized and it comes in handy when working on a tractor or implement in the field. These boxes have alot of room even though they are 26″ wide. Everything is readily accessible. I have two dislikes: 1) the pegs are two close for ratchet wrenches to fit comfortably 2) I couldn’t get the toolboxes keyed the same when I ordered them. I will and do recommend Montezuma tool boxes to everyone.

I have a bunch of toolbox’s including Snap-On, Matco, etc. but this is the one I use. Portable enough to move easily, yet spacious and well laid out so all the sockets and wrench’s are immediately visable. A very ingenious idea. I’m 60 years old so got the aluminum to save weight and be able to carry more tools. The two side handles are great for moving it. If you get the medium size when it is loaded with all the tools you can still lift it, and you will be able to have 95% of all the tools your gonna need. It’s great not having to dig for socket bars then having to yank them off. Not so with this tool box their all standing at attention easy to remove and put back

Tool box is light and tough enough for me to throw in back of pickup for road box. It is also easy to see if all tools were put back before leaving the job since they are all in plain sight. Wish I would of bought one sooner.

I worked a summer on the wheat harvest out west and we had these tool boxes on all our service vehicles so I was fully aware of the strength of these portable toolboxes when I ordered it but it has still continued to amaze me. I hunt northern Pennsylvania and in deer season I spent an entire week running rutted, rough, dirt roads on rock and in mud and not one tool fell out of its place in my tool box. It’s also very easy to get tools out of.

I ordered a MTZ-ME300AL-BK last Feb for my son after we took his car to a local auto part store to change out a weak battery right in the parking lot. It was plenty cold and I wanted to hand in the old battery and make sure the cables etc were OK. I knew he had tools because i had given him a set and it was in his car. Well, half the tools were lost and we froze our butts off trying to make do with a 5″ adjustable wrench that barely turned a 10 mm nut buried in a U shaped clamp There was no deep socket for the other side which came unhooked as it loosen and fell down in a tight space. We had no long nosed pliers to fish that out and then stabilize it for reassembly. There wasn’t a free finger turn with the corrosion All the tools he had were jumbled up in a toolbox and this was aggravating in that sub zero parking lot with a failing sun. After a few choice 4 letter words and my son reminding me it was my idea to change this out in Car Quest’s parking lot I told him i knew of a tool box that literally could save his a__ the rest of his life. It would have room, missing sizes were obvious, is was indestructible, waterproof, lockable and fairly portable. I thought it would be a great gift. Once, as he reminisced about Xmas gifts he said some of the best were the ones he didn’t ask for – like that first set of tools. He needed an update and I didn’t like freezing my a__ off in that parking lot

I first saw these tool boxes in 2008 on the wheat harvest in the western states. I liked the design from the start but when I got back to PA, I couldn’t find them. I recently found them through A&W Direct and got the manufacturer info and located them here. I love this tool box. You can get all nescessary tools into it and it doesn’t take up too much space.
